Plan Your Jackson Golf Trip in 60 Seconds
Elite mountain golf in the shadow of the Tetons
Jackson Hole is the undisputed heavyweight of mountain golf destinations. The Teton Range provides the most dramatic backdrop in American golf, and the courses here match the scenery — exclusive, immaculate, and unforgettable. It's expensive, but this is the trip your group will talk about for decades. The Town Square nightlife is surprisingly rowdy for a place this upscale.
Jackson isn't pretending to be something it's not. The prices are real, the mountains are real, and the courses are legitimately among the best you can play anywhere in the country — not in a "for the region" way, but in an absolute, full-stop sense. Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Club puts the Grand Teton directly in your eyeline on nearly every hole of a Robert Trent Jones Jr. layout that has no business being as good as it is. Teton Pines, the Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay design through wetlands and aspens fifteen minutes from town, gives resort guests access to something that would be members-only almost anywhere else. Snake River Sporting Club is Tom Fazio working along the Snake River with conditioning that borders on absurd — access is limited and the green fees reflect it, but if your group can get a tee time, you take it without negotiating. Three Creek Ranch is the crown jewel, a Rees Jones design that runs top-100 lists and operates member-only with rare guest windows. Plan for two or three of these in a four-day window; going for all four in back-to-back days would be financially punishing and physically exhausting at altitude, and the whole point of being here is to actually absorb what's around you.
The logistical reality of Jackson is that it runs expensive everywhere — lodging, food, green fees — and summer is the only season worth planning around, which means inventory tightens fast. A house sleeping fourteen in the Wilson corridor, ten minutes from town and closer to the mountain courses, will run $2,000 to $3,000 a night but splits reasonably across a large group; the Teton Village corridor gives you slightly more access to the courses at the higher end of that range. JAC airport is ten minutes from downtown, which is one of the more underrated logistical gifts in American golf travel — no shuttle nonsense, no two-hour drive. Book lodging four to six months out for July and August without exception. Stock up at Albertsons or Jackson Whole Grocer for house meals and grab bottles at Jackson Hole Wine & Spirits on Broadway, because going out every night at these restaurant prices will add up in a hurry.
Post-round, the Town Square punches harder than its size suggests. Snake River Grill is the essential dinner — elk tenderloin, bison short ribs, a wood-burning oven, and a room that feels like it belongs to the place rather than imported from somewhere else. For a group that wants to move, Hatch Taqueria handles a large table well and their tequila selection is genuinely serious. The Million Dollar Cowboy Bar on the Square has saddle barstools and live country music and is exactly as wonderfully ridiculous as it sounds; the Silver Dollar Bar at the Wort Hotel, with 2,032 silver dollars inlaid in the bar top, is better for an earlier drink when you want to actually hear each other talk. The honest financial picture for a group of twelve over four days — two bucket-list rounds each, a house in Wilson, two real dinners out — lands somewhere around $1,200 to $1,600 per person before flights. That's real money, and Jackson makes no apology for it.
